Q. My family keep harking on at me to make a Will but I don't see the point. What precisely are the benefits of making a will?
A. Consider for a moment how you would feel if your money, property and possessions were taken by someone who you didn't want to have them. Not a nice thought is it? Unfortunately this is what can, and does sometimes happen, when people do not leave a Will. Yet, bizarrely, making a Will is something which many of us never get round to doing and, according to research conducted by The Law Society, the majority of the adult population do not have a Will. This is an amazing statistic.
Making a Will puts you in complete control of your affairs. Amongst other things it allows you to specify who your assets will pass to after your death (a good enough reason to make a Will on its own.); provide for your loved ones and vulnerable family members; make gifts of specific items to people who are special to you; save money by including tax saving provisions and give your loved ones peace of mind. You are in the unique position of being able to do all of this simply by making a Will.
So, if you happen to be one of the majority who hasn't yet made a Will and would like to join the minority who have taken control of their estates, contact Keith Swan of Patterson, Glenton & Stracey Solicitors by email at ks@pgslaw.co.uk or by telephone on 0808 2317043.
