Q. I have been made redundant by a Bank and, to rub salt into the wound, I have fallen behind with my mortgage payments and the Bank have sent papers to me saying that they will be seeking possession of my house. An appointment has been made at the South Shields County Court for next Thursday. Help!
A. You should immediately speak to the Bank to see if an agreement can be reached for you to clear the arrears within a reasonable timescale. This depends entirely upon the circumstances of your case such as the amount of the arrears, whether or not you are working, how quickly you could clear the arrears etc. If the arrears are considerable and you are not able to offer to clear the arrears in a reasonable timescale then the bank will proceed with the court application.
In this happens you should seek advice ASAP either from a Solicitor, Citizens Advice or a debt agency. They will be able to negotiate on your behalf and to advise you of the best way or presenting your case at court. A solicitor would also be able to represent you at court to obtain the best possible outcome for you, if you felt unable to deal with this yourself.
